Im interested in studying parapsychology. Does anyone know what I need to do? Do I major in Science or Psychology? Or do I need to go another route?

For college I’d recommend another route. First, because you’re not going to find an accredited university in the US that has parapsychology as a major. Secondly, because you want to have a good job when you graduate and you’re not likely to find that in parapsychology.

I’m admittedly biased towards science, but I do recommend majoring in a scientific discipline in college – chemistry, engineering, forensics, etc. Then if you want to get involved in parapsychology after you graduate, you’ll have a good scientific background which will serve you well when trying to decipher what’s real from what isn’t.

    Good luck.

I would submit that the study of paraphychology is best studdied in another form, not found at any university. If you can find access to any number of huge works on the subject by people belonging to the church of jesus christ of latter day saints, There are really some stunning insights to this subject to be found inside of the written works of people of this church. We have more imformation on the subject than any of the other group or organisation there is on earth.

Yes, start at the web site for the Parapsychological Association (link below) and look at the educational backgrounds of the members. Full membership requires a doctoral degree and most members hold their doctorates in traditional sciences from physics to sociology.
Psychology is a social science and is a science so it is not a science or psychology choice.

It depends on what aspect of parapsychology you wish to study and what approach to the study you wish to take.
For example psychokinesis (PK) has largely been studied by people with engineering and physics degrees, where ESP has largely been studied by people with psychology degrees. Sociology and anthropology have also contributed to the the study of parapsychology.

Franklin Pierce University (fully accredited) offers a minor in parapsychology with a major in psychology at the bachelor’s level.
Many universities will allow thesis (master’s level) and dissertations (doctoral level) on parapsychology subjects.
Perhaps the most famous was Carl Jung who did his dissertation on the psychological study of a trance medium.

If you are willing to attend universities outside of the US please let me know and I will e-mail you a list of schools that offer studies in parapsychology.

There are also US schools that offer courses in transpersonal psychology and consciousness studies that include aspects of parapsychology that are simply taught under another name.
