I want to try making these with my camera at home, but i just can’t figure out how they did it! I can make pics of ghosts using light and words using light, but im stuck on creating the ectoplasm they used to create in like the 1900s during seances and stuff.

They did it in the darkroom with paddles, burning/dodging, sandwiched negatives and many other tricks.
Today you could do it rather well with photoshop using layers, reduced opacity paintbrushes and other techniques.

There is a marvelous book, based on an equally marvelous exhibit
at the Metropolitan Museum of Art a few years back. It’s called
“The Perfect Medium; Photography and the Occult”. It contains
a huge array of so-called spirit photographs. If I remember correctly,
there is a passage about the content of the “ectoplasm”.
You might try a library to find it.

Swallow a yard of cheese-cloth, then regurgitate it and have someone take a picture. That’s how they did it in the good ol’ days.
