No you don’t need experience to be a paranormal investigator, although I do think it would be helpful to work with some other groups before trying to start your own group. It will give you lots of insight and knowledge so that when you do start your own group you won’t be fumbling and making lots of mistakes.

You do not need any type of a permit, but its very very important to be open and honest with the people who invite you to their space. They need to understand in advance what exactly you are planning to do, when, where, why, how you reach your conclusions etc. Also, with no experience I would strongly suggest you not pass too much judgement on what you find or don’t find in a space. Just report what was witnessed, and keep the assumptions to yourself. The reason is that you could really upset people and freak them out. Since you have no experience etc- you could be wrong in your judgements so that would cause people unnecessary stress.

The most important tip I can recommend is to ALWAYS get permission in advance for entering a property and establish an appointment time and date. Never trespass. That will get you arrested.

Also, NEVER go alone. Always have someone with you. Unfortunately there are a lot of creeps out there who have other things in mind then just a paranormal investigation. Showing up with someone with you could save you from some dangerous situations.

    I hope that helps. :)

    1. You get a bunch of people together… It’s really not that hard.
    2. Not unless you’re doing it for big profit OR doing famous sites. I suggest starting out for free, and then once you’ve built a reputation, and if you want, ask for pay. Don’t expect people to like that though, as most groups are free.
    3. As long as your not holding up a big racket and are doing small stuff, I doubt you’d need a permit. What exactly would you be instigating anyway? Or did you mean “investigator”? If so, then I don’t believe so. I don’t know if they give out permits like that. If you want to investigate closed sites, then you would probably need a permit to be in that area, but not to conduct investigations in general…
    4. Get high-tech gear. It really helps. Get some good recording stuff to catch EVPs, and I would DEFINITELY get an infrared camera, night-vision stuff, and some small cameras you can set up around the hotspots. get something that measures magnetic and electrical frequencies too…

And DON’T turn on the lights! It makes it MUCH harder to see phenomena. In fact, I recommend doing them at night, if you can.
