   If you don’t believe in an afterlife, how could you believe in spirits?
   Believe in spirits and believing in God are two different issues however (you don’t have to believe in a deity in order to believe that spirits exists)

   No, there’s no connection between the two, and an atheist would have no problem believing in them, unless they happened to be metaphysically naturalist as well.

   I don’t think that the belief in a spirit filled other realm is necessarily in the same category as a belief in an all powerful deity. After all, isn’t it mostly Christian people that tell you that ghosts don’t exist?

    The concept of a soul is usually a difficult one for athiests to embrace. It is for me anyway.

    Having said that: the only thing Athiests all agree on is that there is no god. There is still room under the “athiest” umbrella for someone who believes in ghosts. There can be a ghost without a god, though a majority of people who reject the concept of god will also reject the concept of souls and an afterlife.

    So for the most part I would say it has more to do with spirituality than it does religion.

    I believe that ghosts are the spiritual remains of an earthly existance which for whatever reason, cannot move on to the next spiritual realm. They occur in any religion, or may have had no religion, but are kept on this mortal plane by certain circumstances.

    For many centuries a ghost has been considered the spirit of a man after he died and lost his physical body. It had nothing to do with spirituality and it was simply a natural fact. Modern society claims that anything not proved does not exist: this to me is a silly thing because that means we think we can see or measure everything on earth or outside. It is not so: there are many things we do not see but do exist. Almost all religions accept the existence of ghosts, but they differ in saying what they do, or if they can communicate with us.

    yes you can be an atheist and believe in ghots and even have spirituality

    as for not beleiving in an afterlife, it depends on waht you view ghosts as
    you can beleive in them but not an afterlife if you see them as left over energy just like a movie reel going over the same thing forever, until it wears out
    but, if you beleive a ghost is a dead person then its kidn of part and parcell you beleive that is their after this life afterlife

    Belief in ghosts can originate in religion and belief in god and after life. However, Ghosts exist irrespective of your belief system…. just like the Man exists, Earth Exists… It is more of an experience rather than a belief. I believe in Ghost, but I have seen none so far, and I do not care if they exist or not. Life goes on undisturbed with or without them. Take your call after study outside of the religious framework of mind.
